HONG KONG,
Commenting on the recent local treason trials of Johnston and Gracy, who were brought for trial from Shanghai, the Kung Sheung Daily News complains that while these defendents were extra- dited without difficulty from China, the Chinese Government has often had great difficulty in extraditing Chinese traitors from Hong Kong.
The New Life Evening News suggests that Hong Kong should follow the example of Singapore and institute a state lottery to raise funds for combating tuberculosis.

INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS.
Anxiety over a possible revival of Japanese imperialism was the chief feature of comment under this head. This arose out of a reported request by Japan for a share in the administration of the Liu Chu Islands and for immigration rights in Formosa. It is pointed out (in the Wah Kiu Yat Po of June 7) that not only was the return of Formosa to China agreed at Potsdam, but the Liu Chu Islands paid homage to China up to 1879, when it was annexed by Japan.
The Sing Tao Jih Pao of June 6 said that the Chinese people, in their absorption over the student crisis, had been ignoring international developments, such as events in Hungary, war-like preparations by the United States and the emergence of Japan.
As regards India the Sing Pao of June 3 feared further internal conflict in India as a result of the division into separate administrations. The Sing Tao Jih Pao of June 5, refer- ring to the acceptance of the British plan by Congress, the Moslem and the Sikh sanguinely observes the deadlock is now ended and a bright future is seen.
